Audioslave

A band that really needs no introduction. Everybody has heard of these guys, a staple at parties, just a popular one to listen to when going down the road. I offer up their Self titled album.

A hard rock supergroup, Audioslave consists of Ex-Soundgarden frontman and rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell along with the instrumentals from Rage Against the Machine. It's cool cause no samplings were used, all sounds on all their albums are made by their instruments.

Jesus at the back door, everything is alright.

Nico Vega - No Child Left Behind

Artist: Nico Vega
Album: No Child Left Behind EP
Genre: Indie/Alternative Rock
Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/nicovega

Nico Vega are a sweet little indie band from Los Angeles, California. The three-piece band has Rich Koehler playing guitar melody lines, Dan Epand laying the beats, and Aja Volkman on the suprisingly good vocals. The reason I like this band isn't because they're female fronted, it's because their frontwoman actually has a unique voice. It's almost raspy, but the way she hits the melodies is sweet. She's also cute, which is a plus. Chris, you'll probably like this band.

Tracklist:
1. Gravity (2:34)
2. Be Giving (3:37)
3. Wooden Dolls (4:08)
4. This Too Shall Pass (2:13)
5. Medicine Man (3:02)

Sonic Youth - Experimenta Jet Set, Trash and No Star

Sonic Youth's most popular album, including their highest charting single, Bull in the Heather, the video of which featured a cameo appearance from Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill. This is an easy album to get into, but infinitely rewarding.

Beck - Odelay

Beck's second major-label album, generally regarded as one of his best, Odelay moves further from his anti-folk beginnings and deeper into Alternative Rock. There's a lot less experimentation on this album than subsequent albums too, and both of these things have put me off the album personally. However, the songs are all good, and Beck's lyrics are witty and inspired. Worth a listen, and probably a good album to get into his work with.
Also, the album cover is some rare breed of dog. Not, in fact, a mop as it is often misdescribed as.

The Cranberries - No Need to Argue & To the Faithful Departed

The Cranberries were an Irish band formed in Limerick who incorporated Alternative Rock and Pop influences in their music. After the success of their first album, Everyone Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, they entered the charts once again with No Need to Argue, which included their most enduringly popular single, Zombie, a protest song about the I.R.A. bombing of Warrington in England.
The next album, To the Faithful Departed, suffered somewhat due to deaths in the band's friends and family (which the album is dedicated to, and the title is a reference to), although it still managed to chart relatively highly. The album was somewhat less loved by critics, but despite lacking tracks as strong as its predeccessor, it's definately worth a listen.

The Shins - Oh, Inverted World

This is one of the best modern pop albums I have heard in months. I first heard the track New Slang in Zach Braff's brilliant directoral debut Garden State, and checked out this, The Shins' debut album on that recommendation. I was not disappointed. Mixing the 'sunshine pop' sound with alternative rock, this sound like the Beach Boys covering Sgt. Pepper in the early '90s. One of the best CDs I have ever heard, I don't think there is a weak track on it.

==Track listing==

Electric Six

Time to get this shit started! The Stormblog is back, and we hope to keep it updating regularly this time! And how better to start than with some Electric Six?

Fire is the debut album of Electric Six, released in 2003. It spawned three singles, the first charting ("Danger! High Voltage") in the US, the second getting heavy video play on MTV ("Gay Bar") and the third being "Dance Commander".

The album received generally positive critical reviews. Rolling Stone called the album a "brilliantly demented party record" and Blender hailed the music as "convincingly ferocious." Detractors of the album such as Splendid called the album "a misfire and a waste of time."

The lyrics of several songs from the album contain tongue-in-cheek references to fascism and militarism, for example the line "Let's start a war" from the Song 'Gay Bar,' and the line "You must obey the dance commander" from 'Dance Commander,' not to mention the song 'Nuclear War (On the Dance Floor).' As the single "Gay Bar" was released around the time of the American invasion of Iraq, radio airplay changed a line from "Let's start a war, start a nuclear war, at the gay bar" to "Let's do an edit, do a radio edit, at the gay bar!". In the UK, the words 'nuclear' and 'war' were censored by a 'whip' sound effect.

Fire went gold in the United Kingdom on 5 September 2003.

In May 2008, the track Danger! High Voltage was used in a Subaru Forrester commercial. It depicts several sumo wrestlers approaching a Forrester with the needed requirements for washing a car, and then parodying the cliche of the sexy woman (women) washing the car in slow-motion. Near the end two elderly people watch the proceedings with mouths agape. The tag line is then said over the end of the clip of the song. The tag line for the commercial is "Japanese SUV's just got a little sexier."
