Jason Mraz - Selected Recordings

Artist: Jason Mraz
Album: Various Albums
Genre: Acoustic, Pop
Myspace: www.myspace.com/jasonmraz

Jason Mraz is a singer/songwriter who plays acoustic, funk/rock-influenced pop. He's got a great voice and is almost always accompanied by his friend, backup singer, and djembe player, Noel 'Toca' Rivera. I've given you some of his live albums that feature just Jason Mraz and Toca without the rest of his band. I feel that these show the true nature of his live performance due to the intimate setting and unplugged atmosphere. I've also upped a bootleg that I just downloaded, and it sounds incredible, as good as any commercial recording.

Christmas with the Rat Pack

Off with my over coat, off with my gloves,
who needs an over coat, I'm burning with love!

The Rat Pack is a group of musicians and actors of the 1960s, most well known of which is the trio of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis, Jr. This is an album I picked up at Costco a couple years back, and I put it away in a box on my hard drive for most of the year, and when December roles around I blow the dust off it and play is ceaselessly. You know, you guys should be grateful of where you are (unless you're in the tropics like me), shit the only change you notice in Hawaii is the stores get decked out in September! Oh, what I would give to see the leaves change, and snow fall.

Merry Christmas, brothers.
Click for some yuletide cheer

Home for the Holidays

I'm feeling like Christmas, my brothers. Here is a various artists collection called Home For The Holidays. Enjoy it. It includes such artists such as Gene Autry, Bing Crosby, and Perry Como. It's a marvelous selection of music for you all.

Merry Christmas, my friends.

The Red Chord - Fed Through The Teeth Machine

Latest album from The Red Chord. Brutal, angry and just damn nasty. Another solid release from these guys. Very similar to Prey for Eyes, but with more leads. Techncal Death/Grind/Metalcore at its best.

Kylesa

I offer up to the Gods of Metal, Kylesa. A Georgia sludge act that is a lot like Boris in the respect that they refuse to remain static, refuse to remain on one sound. I offer you Time Will Fuse Its Worth and To Walk A Middle Course. Both excellent albums.

To Walk A Middle Course

Baroness

I humbly offer you the discography of Baroness. One of the kings of modern Sludge, from Savannah, Georgia. The members originally were from up in Virginia, but moved on down to Georgia to start up Baroness. Fronted by guitarist, artist, and vocalist John Dyer Baizley, Baroness features intelligent guitar work, eclectic stylings (in the vein of such fellow Georgia bands as Kylesa and Jucifer), and amazing musicianship. I personally recommend the entire discography, but if you want specific "get this one right fucking now" then I'd say go with Red Album, that's what I started off with. BUT, I'm also a big fan of First.

Leftover Crack

Here is Leftöver Crack's first full length album Mediocre Generica. I picked this up off of the Crustmas blog initially, but it was in a shitty file format that only works in Itunes. So I'm reuploading it in .mp3 file format. Leftöver Crack is a band that encompasses several genres going from death metal, to ska, to crust punk all in short of each other. The singer is kinda weak initially, but he shows his skills as the album wears on. They have anarchist lyrics and sing about anti-homophobia, anti-religion, anti-government, anti-racism, etc. etc. This album was released by Epitaph, the irony of the name was lost to the producers who were pressuring the band to put out a mediocre generic name for the album. The album was released on Septempber 11, 2001, by coincidence. The band released their second album, which is a shitty follow up titled "Fuck World Trade", which beside the offensive name is actually not very good. The band currently reside at C-Squat.

I have since decided the world of Punk Rock wouldn't miss them if they fell in a hole, because they're fucking douche bags, but their music is pretty OK. Kinda mediocre.

Disfear

Disfear is a Swedish crust punk band. Here is their first full length album entitled Soul Scars. I have their album Misanthropic Generation and it is fucking mega so I didn't expect anything less when I went searching for more. I'm pretty sure we have Misanthropic Generation already on this blog, go download it, if it's not on here there it must be from Moonstruck. Download this shit.

Soul Scars

Choke Their Rivers With Our Dead

North Carolina crust punk/sludge act Choke Their Rivers With Our Dead. This was a limited release, from a summer tour they did a while back. CTRWOD was made out of several hardcore bands out of NC, and I gotta say I fucking love it. I'm particularly fond of I Came Out Of North Carolina Flying. The vocals are fucking great, female fronted, there's only 4 tracks, but it's definitely worth it. This band is constantly on my sludge play lists and compilations. They're splendid.

Schifosi

There are 3 albums included here, Self Titled, Ill Winds From Outopia, and Absentium Existence. It's definitely worth it to check this band out, I've been listening non stop for 3 days.

Schifosi

Skitsystem

The album Stigmata by Swedish Crust Punk band Skitsystem (backwards language for fucking system or fuck system literally "shit system"). D-Beat and Black metal in the vein of Darkthrone.

Brant Bjork - Brant Bjork & The Operators

Brant Bjork is best known for his work as the Drummers for Kyuss and Fu Manchu. This is one of his solo albums, playing with a band called 'The Operators'. They have a very unique sound of softly fuzzed out guitars with lots of Flanger used. Its smooth, it’s psychedelic and very very chilled out. For he is captain lovestar and he’s your rock n’ roll commander.

Pantera

I know a lot of you aren't Pantera fans, but I don't care. I'm uploading Cowboys from Hell for Zero. And I thought "what the hell? I'll upload it all". No I don't have Metal Magic, Projects in the Jungle, or I Am The Night.

Anyway, Texas metal band, did a lot of killer shit. Yes, Dimebag got shot, no I don't think he's the greatest guitarist ever. Yes, I love Phil Anselmo, no he was not the reason they broke up. I definitely suggest Vulgar Display and Far Beyond Driven for those of you who liked CFH but are skeptical about their later releases. I enjoy GSTK, but I'm not so sure exactly how much I like Reinventing, it's a good album, but I think in comparison to their previous releases it isn't as strong.

Far Beyond Driven

Iron Man - I Have Returned

Iron Man is a Doom band from my home of Muuuurland. They started off back in the day as a Sabbath cover band, but then started writing there own stuff. Heavy fuzzy riffs and a dreary atmosphere, what more can any Doom fan ask for?

Current Obsession: Jucifer

Today's obsession: Jucifer.

Copypasta from Wikipedia because I'm fucking lazy:
Jucifer is a two piece sludge metal band signed to Relapse Records. They are frequently described as a cross between Portishead and Black Sabbath or The Melvins.. The band's members include Amber Valentine on lead guitar and vocals, and her husband Edgar Livengood on drums. They travel in an RV and are "nomadic in nature," preferring to tour constantly, rather than following the normal practice of album release/tour/time at home. Jucifer is notable for the extreme volume at which they perform, as well as the dichotomy between the recorded material and the "intensity" of their live shows.

Amber Valentine is very pretty. I have their two most recent albums for you, today. If Thine Enemy Hunger (2006) and L'Autrichienne (2008). There is a pretty sweet changing up of vocal work from siren to fucking banshee screech. Enjoy.
