Boogieman

Swedish stoner rock/sludge band. They've got a high energy style reminiscent of rock bands from the 80s, and a smooth chill sludgy style reminiscent of bands such as Down, and doom bands in the vein of Church of Misery. They've got a grinding style accented with heavy riffs. This is their debut album Triple Six Blues.

Southern Isolation

Okay, here is Southern Isolation's one and only album. Southern Isolation is a southern rock/folk band from Louisiana. The duo comprises Phil Anselmo and (then) wife Stephanie Opal. The band is made up of guitar and vocals, provided by Phil and Stephanie, respectively. Stephanie shows that she has a truly beautiful voice, singing lead in all the songs. Philip provides backing vocals on a couple of the tracks, and lead in the last song Southern Man I Am.

This album is executed beautifully. It's truly a shame that they only released the self titled. Just like with crust punk band Arson Anthem we're shown that Philip has mastery over the guitar as he does over singing. I honestly think all of you will get into this really easily, particularly I think Chris will dig it because he's got a penchant for female singers.

Carcass are a British band formed by Napalm Death guitarist Bill Steer together with drummer Ken Owen in 1985. They are based in Liverpool. In 1987, bassist and vocalist Jeff Walker, formerly of the Electro Hippies, joined them, who grew up in the North East of England. Carcass have been a very influential band within the grindcore and death metal scenes. They disbanded in 1995, but will reunite in 2008.^[1]

The Sex Machineguns are a Japanese Speed Metal band. Their music is characterized by a heavy focus on bass as well as extremely fast guitar and bass solos. The band rides an image of being "Shock Rockers" by wearing crazy, exotic outfits like Visual Kei bands (although this image has been toned down recently), singing about blowing up restaurants (as shown in the song "FamiResuBombaa") and naming one of their live DVDs "SM Show" in a very intentional allusion to BDSM. Casting themselves as shock rockers is not the prime selling point of their music though, as they also exhibit their technical skill on their instruments.

Pain (Swe)

Pain is an industrial metal band from Sweden. The band started out as a hobby project for front man Peter Tägtgren, whose idea was to fuse metal with electronic influences. Tägtgren, who is also the vocalist/guitarist of Hypocrisy and producer of his own The Abyss studios, is the only current member. Pain's self titled debut was released in 1997, and since then Pain has released four more albums, and a DVD. In early February of 2006, blabbermouth.net reported that Pain had signed with Roadrunner Records.

The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club

Although revisionist journalism has seen the Beatles stance in musical history slightly reduced, one cannot deny the influence of Sgt. Pepper, even if it doesn't retain its hallowed place as the album that started music. Forget the hype though; this is just a half-decent album. Like all of the Beatles' records, there are some real stinkers, but there are some wonderful songs here as well. I, for one, believe that the Beatles never made a consistent record, but this is probably as close as they came. Worth a listen, if only for the educational factor.

Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet

Public Enemy's third album is arguably their greatest, although it received less attention at the time of release due to allegedly anti-Semetic comments made by band member Professor Griff. Although Chuck D made an apology at the time, he has since taken it back, stating that Griff's comment was anti-Zionist and not anti-Semetic. Fittingly, this album and the previous record both reference the plight of the Palestinians
Time has proven this to be the superior record, with Chuck D's lyricism at its career high, and the rest of the band sounding tighter, tougher and better produced. Sadly, the Bomb Squad would leave after this record, leaving Public Enemy to pursue a different musical direction that lacked the crunch to match Chuck's rhymes. Listening to this, though, one wonders how it all went so wrong and the gangstas moved in.

Beck - Odelay

Beck's second major-label album, generally regarded as one of his best, Odelay moves further from his anti-folk beginnings and deeper into Alternative Rock. There's a lot less experimentation on this album than subsequent albums too, and both of these things have put me off the album personally. However, the songs are all good, and Beck's lyrics are witty and inspired. Worth a listen, and probably a good album to get into his work with.
Also, the album cover is some rare breed of dog. Not, in fact, a mop as it is often misdescribed as.

Acrimony - Tumuli Shroomaroom

Acrimony were Welsh. If you're still reading, I suggest you go see a shrink, but other than that, they were also a Stoner Metal band, who have received no small amount of critical attention after splitting up a few years back. Since then, renewed interest in the genre has seen this, their second album re-issued, and Acrimony have garnered praise both from critics and fans of the genre. Personally, this isn't what I'd call wonderful music, but then again, I'm no real judge of this sort of music. I dig the song titles though, Motherslug (The Mother of all Slugs) has to be the best title for any song, ever. If I remember rightly, this is supposed to be a concept album, but the concept is so obtuse that only a truly fried brain could have imagined it. Something about giant space whales floating in the pools of eternity and life.
